Maydene Field Spaniels

The first Field Spaniel puppy came to Maydene in 1984. She was bred by Jan Tribe and her name was Gunvale Mosgerl of Maydene. Her sire was Sh.Ch. Viceroy Moses of Gunvale one of the famous three bred by Pat Jones of Mittina. The other two were Sh.Ch. Georgius Dalmanius owned by Gretel & David Osborne (Elgert) and Sh. Ch. Mittina Edwina of Coralmist – the foundation bitch for the Coralmist Kennel (Doreen and Malcolm Mowbray). The outstanding Sh.Ch. Mittina Cleo with 32 CCs was Lucy’s great grandmother.

My little dog had an exceptional temperament and I never knew her to have a cross word with any human or canine friend. The only time she became bossy was when she corrected her son Max for over enthusiasm. This was quite comical because Max was considerably heavier and larger than her but he always gave in and lay on his back with his mother staring at him as if saying "Now don’t do that again"

Max, a field spaniel Max, I’m pleased to say had the same loving temperament and he brought me great pleasure and excitement when he became a Show Champion at the tender age of 2 ½ years. Lucy was not to be outdone and became a Show Champion at the age of 6 years.

Maydene Mercury (Merc) was Maydene Maria’s son. He gained many show awards as a youngster but his heart was in gundog work and at the age of 5 years he gained a minor working award. It was a very proud occasion for us at Maydene. His nickname became “Merky Workers” and all his life he enjoyed retrieving on land and water. Merc, a field spaniel
